David Ben-Gurion, originally known as David Yosef Gruen; was a Zionist statesman and political leader, he was the prime minister of Israel and hailed as a state's main founder.

David Ben-Gurion was born in Plonsk, Poland on October 16, 1886. He completed his education in the Hebrew school founded by his father. During his mid-teens, he led a Zionist youth group named 'Ezra'. The members of this group spoke Hebrew amongst themselves.

In the year 1906, he arrived in the Land of Israel and got involved in the creation of the first agricultural workers’ commune. He also helps to establish the Jewish self-defense group, “Hashomer”. Later in the year 1910, he changed his name to Ben-Gurion, when a Jewish leader revolt against the Roman in the 1st Century.
