Jonathan Mayhew Wainwright IV was an American Army Officer and Commander of Allied Forces in the Philippines at the time Japan surrendered to the United States, during World War II. He is the title of the Hero of Bataan and Corregidor.On April 9, 1942, when the Philippines fell into the hands of Japan he along with thousands of people escaped to the island of Corregidor, where they hide almost for the month. Receiving thousands of attacks from Japanese troops and running out of food and other supplies Jonathan Surrender himself to the Japanese on May 6, 1942.
Later he was put under Japanese Prison Camps where he was kept for 3 years. In August 1945, he was released from a liberated prisoner-of-war camp; he had been Japan's highest-ranking American prisoner. He received a Medal of Honour for his work and effort to defend his men. He was also promoted to the rank of four-star general in September 1945.
