Finland's Commemorative Coin for Journalism

Finland recently issued a new e Euros commemorative coin honoring “Journalism and Open Communication Supporting the Finnish Democracy.”

The obverse depicts stylized human figures made up from the ribbon-like net, surrounded by the inscription JOURNALISM in Finnish and Swedish. Date below, surrounded by the Mint of Finland’s logo (lion) and FI as an abbreviation for country of issue. The twelve stars of the European Union surround the design on the outer ring of the coin.

The reverse depicts a geographical map of Western Europe that spans the outer ring and inner core on the right side of the coin. The inscription 2 EURO is superimposed over the map of Europe, with the numeral “2” located in an open field representing the eastern Atlantic Ocean.
