Eid Celebrations With a Philatelic Touch
2016-06-17 Fri
Eid is just around the corner, festivities and celebrations await as the streets will be filled with just one emotion – Love, in its purest form! The month-long fasting of Ramadan will soon end with fireworks of Eid al-Fitr. The U.S. Postal Service is going to release its own version of a token of love, an “Eid Greetings” postage stamp. The ceremony is scheduled on Friday at Dearborn's Islamic Center of America. This fifth Eid stamp is dedicated to Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. Eid al-Adha is when the annual pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca begins, two months after Eid al-Fitr.Officials have stated that it’s the first time that a "first-day-of-issue" ceremony has taken place in this area since January 2014, when a stamp honouring Rosa Parks was released.
