Vanga is mentioned as one of the Janapadas in Jain and Buddhist literature.
The name Vanga indicates a people that occurred for the first time in the Aitareya Aranyaka, where they are mentioned along with the Magadhas. During the period of Budhayana Dharmasutra, Vanga is referred to the people that lived in the region beyond the zone of Aryan civilization in the neighborhood of Kalinga.
This billon coin was issued from Vanga Janapada during the 2nd century BC. The coin bears three symbols a ship, a wheel and two circles enclosing dots, six dumbbells around. The reverse has a Conch shell. It weighs 2-3.3 grams and is in good condition.
