Special Toss Coin for England-Portugal Euro 2016 Friendly

2016-06-16 Thu

A new £5 coin celebrating the 50th anniversary of England's 1966 World Cup was used for the toss in the England-Portugal Euro 2016 friendly match that was held on 3rd June.

The new collector’s coin is available for purchase and a portion of the proceeds would be donated to the Bobby Moore Fund.

The trust was created as a memorial of England's World Cup-winning captain, Bobby Moore and supports research in bowel cancer. Stephanie Moore, his widow was extremely glad about the initiative.

Since Christiano Ronaldo was on bench after Real Madrid’s Champion’s League win, Portugal was captained by Luis Nani. He, along with England’s captain, Rooney witnessed the toss. The game was tight and both teams defended well, but England took over a 10 men Portugal with a winning header by Chris Smalling in the 85th minute.
