1824 Spanish Coin Unearthed in Cave Spring

2016-06-16 Thu

Luck knocked the doors of two men who found a 1824 Spanish coin under the foundation of the Vann Cherokee Cabin using a metal detector. The cabin on Cave Spring’s Broad Street, built in 1810, was renovated due to leaks and inaugurated on Saturday. The coin find was a surprise for all visitors who attended the event. Officials stated that the coin will be a part of the Cave Spring history museum. The coin features King Ferdinand VII and will soon be professionally cleaned. Since the coin is worn out, it could be worth maybe $100.

The grand opening of the cabin that was discovered in 2010 beneath blue siding that covered the 20th century building is scheduled for Oct. 3rd as per officials.
