John Lennon was an English singer, songwriter, musician, and peace activist. He was born on 9th October 1940, in Liverpool, England, to Julia Lennon (née Stanley) and Alfred Lennon, a merchant seaman. He was raised by his mother’s younger sister Mimi Smith.John Lennon achieved worldwide fame as the founder, co-lead vocalist, and rhythm guitarist of the Beatles. His songwriting partnership with Paul McCartney, an English singer, songwriter, musician, and record and film producer, remains the most successful in history. In 1969, he started the Plastic Ono Band with his second wife, Yoko Ono.
This commemorative stamp was issued by Gibraltar to commemorate him and his work in the year 1999.
