Queen Anne of Great Britain
2021-03-08 Mon
Queen Anne was the second daughter of James II and his first wife Ann Hyde and a younger sister of Mary II. She was shy, conscientious, stout, gouty, short-sighted, and very small. She was the queen of Great Britain and Ireland from 1702 CE to 1714 CE. She wanted to rule independently, but her intellectual limitation and chronic ill health caused her to rely heavily on her ministers, who directed England’s efforts against France and Spain in the War of the Spanish Succession.Queen Anne got married to Prince George of Denmark in the year 1638 CE. In 1707, after the Union Act, she became the first sovereign of Great Britain (rather than England and Scotland). Anne had many children but tragically none of them survived to adulthood.
During the reign of Queen Anne she oversaw the creation of the United Kingdom, Britain became a major military power and the foundations were laid for the 18th century’s Golden Age.
