Heroes' Day in Mozambique

Heroes' Day is celebrated annually in Mozambique on February 3. It honours the soldiers, who died in the Mozambican War of Independence. The war of independence with Portugal began in 1961 in Angola.Eduardo Mondlane was one of the most important persons in War of Independence. He began the campaign of guerrilla warfare to achieve independence for his country. Mondlane was killed on February 3, 1969, by explosives smuggled into his locale. Eduardo Mondlane's day of death was chosen as Heroes' Day in Mozambique.
The Bank of Mozambique issued a 100 Meticais banknote is the year 1983 honouring the national hero of the nation. The front of the banknote depicts the Effigy of Eduardo Chivambo Mondlane along with Flag hoisting ceremony in Machava sports stadium in the outskirts of Lourenco Marques by FRELIMO soldiers on the 25th of June 1975 as part of the ceremony of proclamation of independence from Portugal and the Coat of arms.
The back of the note depicts Bank of Mozambique logo on the left and People demonstrating and soldiers marching with a flag at the monument to the heroes of the Mozambican revolution on the right in the Praça dos Heróis Moçambicanos in Maputo.
