King Samudragupta was the son of Chandragupta I and Kumardevi. Samudragupta was a military genius; after sitting on the throne of the Gupta Empire, he added many territories to the Gupta EmpireThis Lyrist type gold Dinar was issued by king Samudragupta during his rule in the Gupta Empire. The obverse of this coin depicts ‘King Nimbate seated left in lalit?sana posture, on a low couch, playing the lyre set on his knees, shown bare-chested, wearing a pearl necklace and large earrings, Brahmi legend around’. The reverse of this coin depicts ‘The goddess Lakshmi, nimbate, seated facing left on a wicker stool, holding diadem and cornucopia, Brahmi legend “Samudragupta’.
This Gold dinar that weighs around 7.74g issued by Samudragupta was sold for INR 7,75,000 in an Oswal Antiques held in Mumbai on 16th January 2021.
