William Tecumseh Sherman was an American soldier, businessman, educator, and author. He is best known for his ‘March to the Sea’ in the year 1864 CE. William T. Sherman was a general in the American Civil War and a major architect of modern warfare. He was one of the ablest Union generals in the Civil War. British military theorist and historian B. H. Liddell Hart declared that Sherman was "the first modern general".In the year, 1869, Ulysses S. Grant became president of the United States of America; William T. Sherman succeeded him as Commanding General of the Army. Sherman served the United States of America as a commanding General of the Army from 1869 until 1883; he was also responsible for the U.S. Army's engagement in the Indian Wars, during that period.
