The Indo-Scythians were the branch of Indo-Iranian Sakas that had ruled the part of central Asia. The Indo-Scythians were named as ‘Shaka’ in India. They were the branch of Indo-Iranian Sakas that had ruled the part of central Asia. They were a group of Iranian nomadic pastoral tribes.Azes II was the last ruler of Indo-Scythian; he ruled the north Indian part of the Indian subcontinent. Azes II is considered as the homonymous king of Indo-Greek. Some historian does not believe that Azes II was as different king and considered that coins attributed to him were in fact issues in the name of Azes I.
This silver Tetradrachm which weighs around 9.84g was issued by Indo-Scythian king Azes I during his rule in Indo-Scythian. The obverse of this coin depicts ‘King mounted on a horse to right, holding a whip with Greek legend around’. The reverse of this coin depicts ‘Pallas Athena standing right, holding a shield and long spear, right arm outstretched with monograms in the field’.
