2016-06-13 Mon
Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) issued special commemorative coins to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Persatuan Pandu Puteri Malaysia. The 99.9% fine silver coin features a reef knot or simpul buku sila which is dedicated to the camaraderie among Girl Guides. The coin costs RM265 and the mintage is limited to only 500 coins. 71 year old, avid coin collector, Retiree Cheah Tong Hin, waited for 16 long hours like many others to buy these coins. He has been collecting coins for more than 50 years and was excited when he finally got a chance to buy one. Many coin collectors and enthusiasts had to return back with nothing as the mintage limit was extremely low. Some went back purchasing the Nordic Gold Brilliant Uncirculated Commemorative Coin which had a mintage limit of a reasonable 10,000 units.
