Square Copper Coin of Indo-Greek King Hippostratos

Hippocrates was an Indo-Greek king, he ruled the part of central and north-western Punjab and Pushkalavati. He sat on the throne of Indo-Greek after Apollodutus II. Like Apollodutus II, Hippostratos call himself as Soter, ‘Saviour’ on his coins. Coins issued by Hippocrates bear the title Basileos Megas, "Great King". During the time of his reign, Hippocrates fought successfully against Indo-Scythian invaders, led by the Scythian king Azes I, but was ultimately defeated and became the last western Indo-Greek king.This copper square coin was issued by Hippostratos during his rule in Indo-Greek. The weight of this square coin is around 8.04g. The obverse of this coin depicts ‘Apollo with a quiver on back, standing right, holding arrow’. The reverse of this coin depicts ‘Tripod with monograms and Kharoshthi legend’.
