The most coloured bird Kingfisher found in the tropical regions of Africa, Asia, and Oceania. There are 114 species which are divided into 3 subfamilies and 19 genera of Kingfisher. Bird Kingfishers are usually with large heads, long, sharp, pointed bills, short legs, and stubby tails.They usually dug tunnels as a nest into the natural or artificial banks in the ground. They live around water and so eat fish, insects and other small invertebrates. Bornean tribe considers sight of a kingfisher as a good omen. Dusun tribe of Borneo believed in olden days that if warrior sees Oriental dwarf kingfisher on the way to battle then he should return back to home. Some communities who resided on Pacific island believed that sacred kingfisher had control over the seas and waves.
Due to human activities, numbers of species are considered to be threatened. Their habitats are lost due to the deforestation.
