2021-01-01 Fri
Brunei is located on the north coast of the island of Borneo, in Southeast Asia. It shares a coastline with the South China Sea. It is the only portion that is not bounded by another country. The states of Sarawak and Malaysia surrounds the Borneo and it is divided into two portions by Limbang which is also part of Sarawak. The first series of stamps from Brunei was the 1895 "Star and crescent" set which were valid only for mail within the state and to Sarawak and Malaysia.
Labuan’s stamps were re-used by overprinting in 1906. In 1907 a set inscribed "BRUNEI POSTAGE & REVENUE" was issued showing a boat on the River Brunei. Between 1942 and 1945, Brunei was occupied by the Japanese forces. Under Japan rule, overprinted stamps of Japan were used in the occupied region.
They have never issued revenue-only stamps. But dual-purpose postage and revenue stamps were valid for fiscal use.
