The early Chola kingdom is referred to in the Sangam literature as Chonadu, Kaveri Nadu, Kaveri Soozh Nadu, Neer Nadu, and Punal Nadu. The capital of the Chola kingdom was Uraiyur, and their second capital was Kaveripoompattinam.The Sangam age was the glorious period from 300 BCE to 300 CE in South India. The powerful dynasties like Chera, Chola, and Pandya were part of the Sangam Period. This period was signified; by the growing rich literature and culture. Apart from the literature, the Sangam Cholas are known to issue coins, and the featured copper coin of the Cholas is one of them.
This square copper coin, which weighs around 2.07g, was issued from Sangam Chola. The obverse of this coin depicts a Standing elephant facing towards the right. The reverse of this coin; depicts Lion facing towards the left with an upraised tail in a dotted circle.
