Horseman Type Gold Dinar of Kumargupta Sold For 5,60,000

This Horseman-type gold dinar; was issued by king Kumargupta during his rule in the Gupta Empire. Kumargupta was one of the able rulers of the Gupta Empire. Kumargupta; is also known by the name of Shakraditya and Mahendraditya. He sat on the throne of the Gupta Empire in the year 415 CE and ruled it until 455 CE; he ruled this empire for almost forty years.After sitting on the throne of the Gupta Empire, king Kumargupta extended the Gupta Empire from Bengal to Kathiawar and from the Himalayas to the Narmada. Before, the reign of Kumargupta; the Gupta Empire was threatened by the rebellion attack of Pushyamitras of central India and the invasion of the White Huns. But, during his reign, he was successful in defeating both empires.
This gold dinar was issued by king Kumar Gupta after performing the Ashvamedha yajna (horse sacrifice) to celebrate his victory. The gold dinar was sold for INR 5, 60,000 in an auction of Oswal Antiques that was held on 5th December 2020.
