Emperor Caracalla is also known by the name Antoninus; he ruled the Roman Empire Marcus Aurelius Antoninus. He ruled the Roman Empire from 198 CE to 217 CE. Caracella belongs to the Severan Dynasty and was the elder son of Septimius Severus and Julia Domna. He became the co-ruler of the Roman Empire with his father 198 CE and sole ruler of the Roman Empire after the death of his father in the year 211 CE.The reign of Caracalla is well known for the expedition he carried out in his reign and also the structure he built. He is also famous for the coin he issued. Caracalla issued the coin is gold and silver. Coins of Emperor Caracalla were distinctive like the emperor himself. He had issued a silver antoninianus depicting Goddess Venus with the legend ‘Venus the Victorious’ on its reverse side.
This silver Denarius; was issued by Caracalla during his rule in the Roman Empire. The weight of this coin is around 3.07g. The obverse of this coin depicts as the ‘Bust of laureate facing towards right and the legend ANTONINVS PIVS AVG around. The reverse of this coin depicts Mars standing facing towards the left, holding a shield’ and reverse spear and the legend ‘PONTIF TR P VIIII COS II’.
