The Kurdish Women on Iraq Banknote

Today marks the anniversary of the Establishment Anniversary of the Kurdish Women Union. Celebrated by Iraqi Kurdistan on 11th December, the day was established to combat discrimination and violence against women.Kurdistan is a geo-cultural historical region in Asia where the Kurdish people form a majority population. Kurdish women’s rights organization report serious issues related to women, such as polygamy, domestic violence, genital mutilation, honor killings, and female infanticide. After the establishment of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in 1992, Kurdish women gained an opportunity to participate in the political life of the region.
Central Bank of Iraq issued a 25,000 Iraqi dinar which depicts A Kurdish farmer holding a sheaf of wheat, a tractor, an Abbasid gold Dinar coin on the front and Hamurabiy yatasallam al-sharia (King Hammurabi receives the Law) on the back.
