Silver Tanka of Ghiyath Al-Din Azam Shah

Ghiyath Al-Din Azam Shah was the ruler of Bengal Sultanate; he was one of the most prominent rulers of Bengal Sultanate. He sat on the throne of Bengal Sultanate in the year 1390 CE, after killing his father Sikandar Shah at the Battle of Goalpara. After sitting on the throne of Bengal Sultanate, he tried to maintain diplomatic relations with the Ming Empire of China. He also tried to maintain good relation with the sultan of Jaunpur in North India. During the early part of his reign, he conquered and occupied Kamarupa in modern-day Assam.This silver tanka that weighs around 10.6g was issued by Ghiyath Al-Din Azam Shah during his reign from the mint Hadrat Firuzabad. The obverse side of this coin is inscribed as ‘ Ghiyath Al-Dunya Wa 'L Din Abu 'L Muzaffar A 'Zamshah Al-Sultan- Long Legend’. The reverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘Nasir Amir Al-Mu Minin Ghawth Al-Islam Wa 'L Muslimin Khallada Mulkahu’.
