The Chalukyas were one of the most of most powerful dynasties during the medieval period in India. They ruled large parts of central India between the 6th and 12th century C.E. The Badami Chalukyas were the earliest dynasties of Chalukyas; they ruled the part from Vatapi; from the middle of 6th Century.The dynasty of Chalukyas of Badami was founded by king Pulakeshin I in 543 CE. Pulakeshin I took Vatapi under his control and made as his capital. Pulakeshin I and his descendants are referred to as 'Chalukyas of Badami'. They ruled over an empire that comprised the entire state of Karnataka and most of Andhra Pradesh in the Deccan.
