Jaisalmer was a princely state during British rule in India, It is also known with its nickname as ‘The Golden City’. It is situated in the Indian states of Rajasthan. It lies in the southern part of the Thar Desert that includes the region of present-day Jaisalmer district and some parts of Jodhpur and Bikaner district. The history of Jaisalmer can be dated back to the medieval period when the golden city was founded by Rajput chief Rawal Jaisal, after whom both the city and the state were named.Ranjit Singh sat on the throne of Jaisalmer in the year 1846 CE and ruled it until 1864 CE. After sitting on the throne of Jaisalmer he issued the coins in gold and silver. He issued coins in various shapes like Hexagonal, Octagonal, Round or irregular, and square. These coins were issued in the name of Queen Victoria legend on the obverse side of the coin and the reverse of the coins represents symbols such as Bird, Umbrella, Trishul.
This silver half nazarana rupee issued by Ranjit Singh is listed for INR 70,000 in an upcoming auction of Todywalla that will be held on 22nd November 2020.
