2020-11-17 Tue
We all are well aware that the telephone was discovered by Alexander Graham Bell. Initially, telephones were based on sound transmission through pipes or other physical media. The best way to understand this technology is children’s telephone toy made by connecting the bottoms of two paper cups, metal cans, or plastic bottles with tautly held string. The concept of a telephone has emerged from the electrical telegraph. The modern telephone is the result of many inventions and discoveries. Alexander Graham Bell was the first to patent the telephone, as an ‘apparatus for transmitting vocal or other sounds telegraphically’. Others important researcher who were working simultaneously and contributed for the same are Antonio Meucci, Elisha Gray, Tivadar Puskas, Johann Philipp Reis and Thomas Edison.
The telephone became the instrument of modernisation. It aided the development of towns and suburbs as it connects the main hub or metro cities.
Bophuthatswana issued stamps on the theme of Telephone history on 31st July 1981.
