Gold Dinar of Samudragupta Listed For INR 4,50,000

This gold dinar issued by Samudragupta of the Gupta dynasty is listed for INR 4,50,000 in an upcoming auction of Oswal Antiques that will be held in Mumbai on 5th December 2020.Samudragupta was the most capable ruler of the Gupta dynasty, he was the son of Gupta emperor Chandragupta I and the Licchavi princess Kumaradevi, he greatly expanded his dynasty's political power.
Samudragupta performed the Ashvamedha sacrifice to prove imperial sovereignty, and according to his coins, remained undefeated. He also issued a gold dinar Ashvamedha type coin to celebrate his victories in Northern and Southern India. He had performed the Ashvamedha sacrifice to proclaim his supremacy.
This gold dinar Ashvamedha type coin was issued by king Samudragupta to honour his Ashvamedha sacrifice. The Asavamedha sacrifice is a symbol of victory and a unique method of asserting universal supremacy.
This gold dinar is listed for INR 4,50,000 in an upcoming auction of Oswal Antiques that will be held in Mumbai on 5th December 2020.
