Ramchandra of Devagiri

Ramachandra is also known by the name of Ramadeva, he was the ruler of the Seuna (Yadava) dynasty of the Deccan region in India. Ramchandra was the son of Yadava king, Krishna, after the death of his father Krishna in the year 1260 CE, his uncle Mahadeva sat on the throne of Devagiri, as Ramachandra was very young at that time. Later, when Mahadeva’s son Ammana became the next king of Yadava, Ramachandra claims the throne of Devagiri. In the year 1271 CE, Ramachandra seized the throne from his cousin Ammana and sat on the throne of Devagiri.This gold hana or Fanam that weighs around 1.19g was issued by Ramachandra of Devagiri during his rule. The obverse of this coin depicts Lion standing facing towards left raising forepaw, sun symbol above Lion. The reverse side of this coin is inscribed as Devnagari legend ‘Shri Rama’.
