Silver Unit of Mon Kingdom of Hamsavati

The above silver coin that depicts the conch symbol on the obverse side was issued from the Mon Kingdom of Hamsavati. The Mon kingdom of Hamsavati is situated from present-day Thailand's central Chaopya basin in the south up to Lumpun on the north and from across the lower part of Burma towards the east to the Bay of Bengal to the west. This kingdom existed between the 3rd Century and 11th Century CE. It was the first mon kingdom established during that period.The weight of this silver unit is around 9.95g. The obverse of this coin in inscribed as ‘Conch shell within beaded border’. The reverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘Srivatsa symbol with an ankus in the middle, two annulets below and ‘full moon’ and ‘star’ above’.
