The United States of America issued this commemorative coin under American Innovation $1 Coin Program. This coin was issued to honour innovation and innovators of each of 50 States, the District of Columbia and the five U. S. territories – Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands.The 1 dollar coin was issued by the United States of America from the mint Pennsylvania. It was issued to honour the discovery of the polio vaccine in 1953 by Dr Jonas Salk and his team. Dr Jonam Salk was a medical researcher who developed one of the first successful polio vaccines.
The obverse of this coin depicts a dramatic representation of the Statue of Liberty in profile. The reverse of this coin depicts a microscope and conception of the poliovirus at three different levels of magnification.
