Silver Rupee of Inayat Khan of Independent Kingdom Rohilkhand

Rohilkhand is situated in the north-western region of India; it was one of the most powerful Indian states. During the medieval period, it was an Independent kingdom of India. Rohilkhand named after the Afghan tribe ‘Rohilla’; ‘Roh’ means mountain and Rohilla means a mountaineer in Pashto.It is believed that the Rohillas has come from the native hills of Shahdarah and had obtained a position of petty officer in the army of the Mughal Empire. Later they also occupied the higher post in the army of the Mughal Empire.
This silver tanka that weighs around 11.23g was issued by ruler Inayat Khan of Independent Kingdom Rohilkhand. This silver tanka was issued from the mint Itawa in the name of Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II. It was issued in the Hijri year 1176 during the 3rd year of his reign. The obverse of this silver tanka was is inscribed with the name and title of Shah Alam II. The reverse of this coin is inscribed with the mint name.
