Kumargupta I was the king of the ancient kingdom Gupta Empire. Kumargupta was the son of Gupta emperor Chandragupta II and queen Dhruvadevi.Gupta Empire was an ancient Indian kingdom that existed from mid to late 3rd Century CE to 543 CE. They stretched their kingdom across northern, central, and parts of southern India.
This Tiger-Slayer gold Dinar that weighs around 7.98g was issued by Kumargupta I during his reign in the Gupta Empire. The obverse of this coin depicts a Standing king facing towards the right wearing dhoti and arm bracelets, drawing a bow and shooting an arrow into the mouth of Tiger while the tiger falls back. The Brahmi legend ‘Srimam Vyaghrabala’ (Parakramah) is written around. The reverse of this coin depicts ‘goddess standing on a crocodile feeding a peacock with her right hand with Brahmi legend ‘Kumarguptodhiraja.
