Arbor Day in Poland
2020-10-10 Sat
Poland celebrates Arbor Day aka Dzien Drzewa on October 10. It aims to raise awareness of the importance of conservation of the country's rich forests.Poland is the fourth most forested country in Europe. One of the most famous Polish forests is Bia?owie?a Forest. It is shared between Poland and Belarus. Bia?owie?a Forest is one of the last and largest remaining parts of the primaeval forest that once grew on the European Plain. It has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Poland's largest continuous forest is Lower Silesian Wilderness.
Sadly, Arbor Day is not widely celebrated in Poland. Nevertheless, Poland's government and conservation organizations put a lot of effort in raising awareness of the importance of forest conservation, tree planting, and reduction of forest extraction. Besides, Polish conservation organizations hold tree-planting campaigns on other relevant dates. Schoolchildren and forestry university students often participate in such events.
