Carloman- I was the king of the Franks reigning from 768 until his death in 771. He was born on 28th June 751 to Pepin the Short and Bertrada of Laon. The younger brother of Charlemagne, with whom, at the instance of their father, he was anointed a king of the Franks in 754 by Pope Stephan II. Carloman and Charlemagne each inherited half of the Kingdom of the Franks upon Pepin's death.
Carloman’s reign proved short and troublesome. The brothers shared possession of Aquitaine, which broke into rebellion upon the death of Pepin the Short. When Carloman died on 4th December 771, Charlemagne annexed his territory and became sole ruler of the Frankish empire. His expanded kingdom was called as the Carolingian Empire.
During his regime, many coins were issued featuring the portrait of this legendary and powerful King. Besides this, Carloman I’s silver Denarius depicts the legend CARO on its obverse face. On the other hand, the reverse of a coin engraved monogram ANDE accosted to the left of a cross, to the right of a group of twelve points forming a semicircle.
