International Day of Older Persons
2020-10-01 Thu
All member states of the United Nations Organization annually observe International Day of Older Persons on 1st October. This observance was established in 1990 and the first events were organized in 1991. Celebration of International Day of Older Persons raises public awareness about issues affecting elderly people, like abuse and senescence. This is also a great day to appreciate the elderly for their role in the society and every family.
The UN International Day of Older Persons is an opportunity to highlight the important contributions that older people make to society and raise awareness of the opportunities and challenges of ageing in today’s world. The theme of the 2020 commemoration is “Pandemics: Do They Change How We Address Age and Ageing?”
In the year 1999, Thai Post issued a stamp with the denominations of 5.00 baht to commemorate the occasion of International Day of Older Persons. The stamp depicts the image of the elderly among their children with warmth with the international year emblem of the elderly.
