Tajikistan Currency is named after Ismail Samani

Somoni currency is of Tajikistan which is further sub-divided into 100 dirams. The currency was named after Ismail Samani who was the father of the Tajik nation.On 30th October 2000, Somani replaced Tajikistan ruble. One Somani was introduced at the rate of 1000 ruble. Initially, Diram banknotes were introduced and later coins were introduced in 2001.
In the first banknotes series, 1, 5, 20, 50 dirams, 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 somonis were printed in 1999 and issued in 2000. Due to inflation, 200 and 500 somoni banknotes were introduced in 2010. In 2013, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 somoni notes were reissued.
The 5 dirams banknote features Arbob Cultural Palace on the front side. Arbob Cultural palace was a former headquarter of a Soviet collective farm. The other side of the note shows the image of Mirzo Tursunzoda. He was poet, academician of Tajik Science Academy and a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Tajikistan and the Union of Soviet Writers.
