Silver Square Sansu of Kashmir Sultanate Zain Al-Abidin

The real name of Zain-Al-Abidin was ‘Shahi Khan’. He was the sultan of Kashmir Sultanate; he ruled Kashmir from 1420 CE till 1470 CE. He sat on the throne of Kashmir Sultanate after defeating his brother Ali Shah in the battle with the title Zain-ul-Abidin. Zain Al Abidin had also played an important promoting Islam in Kashmir. He had also invited artists and craftsmen from Central Asia to train local artists in Kashmir.After sitting on the throne of Kashmir Sultanate he issued coins in three metals gold, silver, and copper. The gold coins issued by him are very rare and the silver sasnu and copper Kaserahs issued by him common. All the silver sasnu issued by him were struck with a fixed date 842 till the end of his reign.
This silver square sasnu issued by him weighs around 6.03g. This silver sasnu was issued by him during the Hijri year 842. The obverse side of this coin is inscribed with the name and title of Zain-Al-Abidin. The reverse side of this coin is inscribed with the mint name.
