Yurt on Mongolian Togrok

Yurt is a round tent used as a dwelling by several distinct nomadic groups in the steppes of Central Asia. The word ‘Yurt’ comes from the Mongol version of Urdu which meant camp or palace.Yurts have a deep and long impact on the history of Central Asia for at least three thousand years. The Indo-European nomads and some parts of Russia and Ukraine were the first to used yurts.
Traditionally, Yurt’s structure was made up of a wooden circular frame carrying a felt cover. The felt is made from the wool.
Herodotus described yurt-like tents as the dwelling place of the Scythians, and horse riders nomadic tribes who lived in the northern Black Sea and Central Asian region from around 600 BC to AD 300.
This Yurt was featured in 1000 Togrog Banknotes of Mongolia. Its front side features the image of Genghis Khan, Soyombo symbol and Paiza.
