Labour Day Centenary in Austria

Labour Day is celebrated on 1st May of every year throughout the World and so in Austria. It is celebrated to advocate the achievement of the 8-hours working day. It was achieved due to the labour union movement.The first May Day celebrations were focused on workers took place on May 1st 1890 after its proclamation by the first International Congress of Socialist parties in Europe on 14th July 1889 in Paris, France, to dedicate May 1st every year as the ‘Workers Day of International Unity and Solidarity’.
Austria has issued a stamp on the occasion of International Worker’s Day Centenary. Stamp portrait a female is surrounded by the wreath. The stamp is issued one day before i.e. 30th April 1990 to mark the centenary event of Austria’s Labour’s Day.
In most countries, Labour Day is a public holiday.
