This gold Sovereign issued by king Rama Varma V of Princely State Travancore listed for INR 8,00,000 in an upcoming auction Todywalla will be held in Mumbai on 30th August 2020.Travancore was a Princely State during the British rule in India. It was one of the most prosperous and powerful kingdoms of medieval India before pre-independence India. This region ruled by many powerful kingdoms. During the early centuries, it was ruled by Chera Kingdoms. Later, during the 11th Century, it fell into the hands of the Chola Empire.
The obverse of this coin depicts ‘Bust of the king with plumed headdress three-quarters to the right’. The reverse of this coin depicts ‘coat of arms of the state comprising two elephants, flanking a regal tunic and conch.
