Mother’s Day of Osterreich
2020-08-17 Mon
No one can be free from debt which one owes to their mother. Therefore, Mother’s Day is observed to acknowledge her sacrifices by showing gratitude to her. The love and affection of a mother are celebrated around the world. In Austria or Osterreich Mother’s Day is called Muttertag. It is celebrated on the second Sunday in May. Mother’s Day is not just about celebrating with biological mother but also with honoring the mother of the family, motherhood, maternal bond, and the influence of mothers in society. The example of a mother cult is seen in Greece and Rome. The ancient goddesses Cybele, Rhea, Hilaria, Mothering Sunday, etc are some of the renowned older and popular traditions. Similar kinds of days are celebrated to honor family members such as Father’s Day, Sibling’s Day, Grandparent’s Day, etc. Unfortunately, these days are turned into more commercialized and a day to be flaunted on social networking than to be celebrated with the actual ones. Austria commemorates Mother’s Day by issuing a stamp in May 1958. Visit philamart to view and purchase variety of stamps from all over the world.Image Courtesy: Stampsoftheworld.co.uk
