Vijayanagar was one of the powerful kingdoms in the South. It is still remembered for its great administration and massive architecture. It was founded by two brothers, Harihara and Bukka, on the south bank of the River Tungabhadra in 1336 AD.Krishnadeva Raya was a prominent king of the Vijaynagar Empire. He was the third ruler of the Tuluva Dynasty of the Vijaynagara Empire. During this rule he extended his kingdom to the most South India, which included present-day Karnataka, Northern Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh, stretching upwards in the northeast to Cuttack.
This copper 2 jital which weighs around 8.3g was issued by him during his rule in the Vijaynagar Empire. The obverse of this coin depicts ‘Garuda running to the left’. The reverse of this coin depicts ‘Devnagari legend ‘Sri Pra Ta Pa Krishna Raya’.
