Silver Rupee of Princely State Patiala

Patiala was a Princely State during British rule in India; it was the largest, wealthiest, and most populated state of Phulkian, Punjab. The rulers claimed their origin from the Bhatti family of Jaisalmer, Jaisal. The state was founded by Ala Singh, the chief of one of the Phulkian families, in 1753.Maharaja Amar Singh ruled the state from 1765 to 1781 AD. During the reign, he issued gold and silver coins from Patiala mint. These coins are found in the denomination of Mohur, Rupee, and Half Rupee.
This silver rupee which weighs around 10.9g was issued king Amar Singh during his reign in Princely State Patiala. Amar Singh issued this rupee in the name of Ahmed Shah Durrani of the Durrani Empire. The obverse of this silver rupee is inscribed with the name and title of Ahmed Shah Durrani. The reverse of the coin depicts ‘Suaad’ within the ‘seen’ of julus and flower mintmark.
