Silver Tanka of Bengal Sultan Danujamardana Deva

Danujamardana Deva was a descendant of the Deva dynasty of Bengal. Raja Ganesh was the founder of the Deva Dynasty, the ancestors of Raja Ganesh were landlords of Bengal. Raja Ganesh took advantage of the weakness of Bengal Sultanate and manage to have the control of Bengal Sultanate in his hand. To place his son on the throne of the Bengal Sultanate he converted his son into Muslim and made him sit on the throne with the title Jalaluddin Muhammad Shah.This silver tanka which weighs around 10.82g was issued by Danujamardana Deva during his reign in Bengal Sultanate. The obverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘Sri Da/nujamardda/naDevasya’ in the hexagon border. The reverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘Sri Chandi/charana Pa/rayana’ within the circle. This silver tanka was sold for INR 1,30,000 in an auction of Classical Numismatic Gallery which was held on 20th December 2019.
