This stamp was thought to be the world’s first due stamp. This rare item was auctioned for nearly 23,000 dollars.In 1859, the French post issued one of the most interesting stamps in its postal history. This due stamp is the first stamp that does not prepay for the delivery of the mail. The payment of this stamp was done by the recipient of the letter. There was a stamp to identify with it.
The stamp illustrates its denomination ‘10’ in the center with ‘Centimes a percevoir’ within the black box border. The border consists of french legend ‘Chiffre’ at the top, ‘Postes’ on both right and left sides, and ‘tax’ at the bottom.
