Gujarat Sultanate was a late medieval kingdom established in the early 15th Century. It was established by Zafar Khan (son of Sadharan, a Tanka Rajput) in the year 1396. He was appointed as a Governor of Gujarat by Nasir-ud-din Muhammad Bin Tughluq IV in the year 1391 CE.Muizz-ud-Din Muhammad Shah II, born Karim Khan was a ruler of the Muzaffarid dynasty, who reigned over the Gujarat Sultanate from 1442 to 1451. He expanded and strengthened the Sultanate. He is known for commissioning a large and beautiful mosque at Sarkhej outside Ahmedabad.
Ghayas-ud-din Muhammad Shah-ii was one of the first Muslim kings in India, who issued couplet coin. Depicted here is a one and half Falus issued under his reign. The obverse depicts the inscription “Sikka-i-Sultan Ghiyasuddin Muhammad Shah Bad”. The reverse of a coin shows “Ta Badar-uz-Zarb Gardun Qurs-i-Mihr-O-Mah bBad” (May the coins of Ghiyasuddin Muhammad shah remain so long as the mint of heaven, the discus of the sun and moon remain).
