The 5c special blueprinting stamp issue in 1880 is one of the most valuable stamps philatelic specimens in the world. It was offered by the Cherrystone auction in its annual sale of ‘the New Amsterdam Collection’ that took place of June 10th, 2019.It is one of the rarest special printing with 1950 and 2019 Philatelic Foundation Certificate Philatelist assert that there are only 18 specimens of this special printing. The auction house described it as ‘an unused example without gum as issued, well centered with a wide margin on all sides with fresh color’.
This 1880 special Printing was sold for the incredible price of 15,000 US dollars. One of the finest examples of 5c bright blue was offered by Robert A Siege for 450,000 US dollars.
