The aquatic life of Ramsar Area

Ramsar wetland site comes under the Ramsar Convention. Ramsar wetland is of International importance for Waterfowl habitats. Hence it comes under an international treaty for the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands. There are 6 important organizations, namely Birdlife Organisation, International Union for Conservation of Nature, International Water Management Institute, Wetlands International, Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust, and Wildfowl & Wetlands International.Ramsar Convention is an intergovernmental environmental treaty established in 1971 by UNESCO, which came into force in 1975.
Ramsar is classified into Marine or coastal wetlands, Inland wetlands, and human-made wetlands. Marine or coastal wetland is further subdivided into Saline water, Shores, Brackish, Lagoons, Estuarine, etc. Inland wetland is divided into fresh, lakes or pools, marshes, etc. And lastly, human-made wetlands include Aquaculture pond, irrigated land, salt sites, canals, etc.
Alderney's West Coast was recognized by the United Nations as Wetland of International importance in 2005. The site is managed by Alderney Wildlife Trust, on behalf of the States of Alderney, with other groups/organizations supporting the work. Its designation ensures it is gently managed, conserving and maintaining its ecological character, diverse habitats, flora and fauna and protecting it for future generations.
