2020-06-27 Sat
“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart.” – Helen KellerHelen Adams Keller was an American author, political activist, and lecturer. She was the first deaf-blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree. She was born on 27th June in Tuscumbia, Alabama. At the age of 19 months, Helen became deaf and blind as a result of an unknown illness that changes her previously calm nature.
It was because of her teacher Anne Mansfield Sullivan’s efforts Helen became a soft-spoken and disciplined girl who grew up to be one of the most influential people in the United States of America. Her birthday i.e. 27 June is commemorated as Helen Keller Day in Pennsylvania and, in the centenary year of her birth, was recognized by a presidential proclamation from US President Jimmy Carter.
Helen Keller is featured on a Zero Euro Souvenir Banknotes issued by Lisbon. The banknote depicts the main characters of one of her books on the obverse and the European Monuments on the reverse.
