2020-06-08 Mon
Edward the Confessor was among the last Anglo Saxon Kings of England reigning from 1042 to 1066. He is often portrayed as a listless, ineffectual monarch overshadowed by powerful nobles. Edward was the son of Ethelred the Unready and Emma of Normandy. He spent much of his early life living in exile in France, his family driven away by Danish rule.Edward became emperor on 8th June 1042. He preserved much of the dignity of the crown and managed to keep the kingdom united during his reign of 24 years. He restored the rule of the House of Wessex after the period of Danish rule since Cnut (better known as Canute) conquered England in 1016. When Edward died in 1066, he was succeeded by Harold Godwinson.
