Women in German History is showcased in definitive stamp series. The stamps were designed by Oliver Aretz. Each stamp represents a portrait of a famous German woman. The series of 6 stamps are Emma Ihrer, Cecile Vogt, Lotte Lehman, Luise Von Preussen, Fanny Hensel and Alice Salomon.Let’s have a brief introduction to each eminent lady in Germany. Emma Ihrer was a feminist and Trade unionist and had founded societies to defend the right of women workers. Cecile Vogt was a French neurologist from Haute-Savoie. She had studied extensively about cytoarchitectonics of the brain.
Lotte Lehmann was a singer and had a specialization in the soprano. She gave memorable performances in the operas of Richard Strauss, Richard Wagner, Ludwig van Beethoven, Puccini, Mozart, and Massenet. She made more than five hundred recordings. Luise Von Preussen was Queen of Prussia as the wife of King Frederick William III. Their marriage produced nine children, including the future monarchs Frederick William IV of Prussia and German Emperor Wilhelm I.
Fanny Hensel was a German composer and pianist from the Romantic era. She composed over 460 pieces of music. Lastly, Alice Salomon was a social reformer. She was a pioneer as a social worker in academics.
